In my January blog I mentioned that I'd try wintering my begonia tubers in their planters with an insulating mulch of shredded dead perennial stems. Well, the experiment was a great success. The undisturbed begonias flowered earlier, in June and are still "strutting their stuff" in September. See photo below.








Also still flowering well, in the shingle dry garden, is the Mexican Fleabane "Erigeron karvinkianus". Again, this plant is great value, flowering profusely throughout the summer and barely pausing through the extreme heat and drought of summer 2022.
