Once again this year the class for ‘Knitted Squares’ is being included in the Schedule so why don’t all you knitters have a go, it couldn’t be easier. All you need is a pair of No. 9 needles and enough double knitting wool to knit four squares which is just over 50 grams. These squares are then donated to the St. Dunstan’s Knitting Group who sew them into blankets, normally of 100 squares each and these are now sent to the Whitechapel Mission in London and given to clients when they are rehoused. Last year we provided them with 22 blankets at Harvest Time but over the years since starting way back in 1993 we have knitted and sewn just under 1000 blankets which were then sent to Bosnia, Chernobyl, Romania and various local charities. So why not have a go, be creative with your colours or knit them all in the same colour, which I often prefer when making up the blankets but whatever you choose you can be assured that they will go to a worthwhile cause, so get knitting and hopefully win a prize!
